72nd National Film Awards: Dadasaheb Phalke 2024 for Anant Nag

UdaipurTimes, Sept 22, 2026 - The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will present the prestigious 72nd National Film Awards today, September 22, recognising outstanding achievements in Indian cinema for the year 2024. The awards ceremony will be held at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, Gujarat.

This year, the award function is being held in a different city, away from the usual venue in New Delhi. In fact, in the coming years, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be taking the awards function to different parts of the country in order to bring the celebration of Indian cinema closer to different regions and showcase the country's rich cultural and cinematic diversity.

These awards are among the most prestigious honours for Indian cinema. Instituted in 1954, they recognise excellence across Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Writing on Cinema, covering a wide range of languages, regions and forms of filmmaking.

The 72nd National Film Awards will bring together some of the finest films, performances and creative talent from across the country.

Veteran actor Anant Nag will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. With a career spanning over five decades, Nag has made an enduring contribution to Kannada and Indian cinema through his diverse body of work.

Article 370 has been adjudged the Best Feature Film, Bhangaar the Best Non-Feature Film and Ram-Nami the Best Documentary.

In the acting categories, Mammootty for Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion have been selected for Best Actor in a Leading Role respectively, while Yami Gautam will receive the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for Article 370.

Randeep Hooda has been selected for the Best Debut Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.

Films including Kalki 2898 AD, Amaran, Pushpa: The Rule Part-02, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Stree 2 will also receive honours in various categories.
