Alliance Francaise de Jaipur, as part of the Alliance Francaise network and the French Institute in India, is organising the French Culture Week in Udaipur. Under the program, French artists will perform in various parts of the city during the week that aims to strengthen the partnership between France and India, particularly Rajasthan.
The first group of artists is an enchanting Circus production for kids, titled TOYO. It is an imaginative encounter between an acrobat and a construction pipe, setting the stage for an awe-inspiring adventure in creative storytelling. Gillou, our young protagonist, stumbles upon a mysterious voice that beckons him towards an enthralling revelation. Fueled by determination, Gillou embarks on a challenging journey to befriend Toyo, a formidable and colossal hollow pipe.
With the musical companionship of Coline, Gillou's inventive antics transform Toyo into an aeroplane, a suit, a telescope, or even a house, with occasional mishaps and moments filled with laughter. Through this vibrant interplay, an enduring and unforgettable friendship blossoms. At the heart of this mesmerising production is Gilles Charles-Messance, a seasoned acrobat with roots in traditional circuses. His masterpiece, "Toyo", guarantees not only to spark the imaginations of children but also to keep them thoroughly entertained.
The Udaipur leg of "TOYO!" was scheduled on 12-13 October 2023 for various shows. The first show was held at MMPS Moti Mahal at 10am on 12 October for school students of Maharana Mewar Public School and Rockwoods School. It was followed by an exclusive performance for kids at the Juvenile Correction Centre, supported by Rockwoods School, at 5pm on 12 October. The last show, which was open to public, was held on 13 October at 6pm at The Third Space, Udaipur.
Simultaneously, the celebrated French artist Sandre will be painting a mural at the MMPS School, under the aegis of the Wall Art Festival organised by the Alliance Francaise network across India. A fusion of color, culture, and creativity awaits as we delve into India's splendid mosaic of cities, history, and natural landscapes.
As cities pulse with everyday life, they're about to be transformed into vibrant canvases. Envision bustling markets, serene heritage sites, and inviting public spaces, all coming to life with the passion and strokes of our celebrated artists. Sandre from France, with her surreal urban narratives that span across Paris, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Belgium will be painting from 12-15 October and conducting painting workshops with MMPS students.
The French Culture Week stands testimony to the long-standing patronage of the City Palace of Udaipur, the Maharana Mewar Public Trust and the Maharana Mewar Public School as well as Rockwoods Schools.
