Rajasthan RGHS: Doctors Must Personally Verify and Sign Prescriptions

August 31, 2026 - The government is taking steps to ensure the reliability and accountability of medical consultations and prescriptions issued under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS). According to the Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore, the new instructions mandate that every RGHS prescription must be personally examined and verified by the concerned empanelled doctor and authenticated with the doctor’s own signature and stamp.

All hospitals empanelled with RGHS have been directed to ensure immediate and strict compliance with these instructions.

During an inspection, said Rathore, it was found that in some cases, beneficiaries’ prescriptions/slips were being prepared and signed by junior residents or other staff members, without being verified and authenticated by the concerned registered medical practitioner (RMP) empanelled with RGHS.

Dr Nidhi Patel, Project Officer, RGHS, said that assistance may be taken, in accordance with institutional rules, for preparing prescriptions, recording clinical details, or carrying out data entry. However, the ultimate responsibility for the patient’s clinical findings, diagnosis, prescribed medicines, investigations, and treatment will rest solely with the concerned empanelled doctor. She said that the new instructions clearly state that no other person will be permitted to sign or authenticate a prescription on behalf of the concerned doctor.

Dr Patel further explained that prescriptions that have not been duly verified and authenticated by the concerned empanelled doctor may not be considered compliant with the rules during the scrutiny and reimbursement of RGHS claims. Appropriate action may also be taken in accordance with the relevant RGHS guidelines and the terms and conditions of empanelment, she added.
