Rajasthan Govt Urges Precautions Amid Swine Flu Risk

Udaipur, August 28, 2026 - Rajasthan Health Department has issued an advisory on the prevention of swine flu. Principal Secretary of Medical and Health Gayatri Rathore has appealed to the public to take precautions to prevent seasonal flu and other respiratory infections. She said there is no need to panic if symptoms such as fever, cough or sore throat appear. People should maintain proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infection and consult a doctor when necessary.

As per the advisory:

Do's

  • Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water. Use hand sanitiser when necessary.
  • Avoid crowded places if you have symptoms such as fever, cough or sore throat.
  • Maintain appropriate distance from others when experiencing symptoms; wear a mask when necessary.
  • Get adequate rest and drink plenty of water and other fluids.
  • If you have flu-like symptoms, consult a doctor and take medicines only as advised.
  • Children, elderly people, pregnant women or those with serious or long-term illnesses should take extra precautions.
  • In case of breathing difficulties, persistent high fever, extreme weakness, low oxygen levels or other serious symptoms, immediately contact the nearest health centre or doctor.

Don'ts

  • Do not panic if you develop flu-like symptoms and do not pay attention to rumours.
  • Do not take antibiotics or antiviral medicines without consulting a doctor.
  • Do not decide the dosage of medicines on your own or continue taking medicines for a prolonged period without medical advice.
  • If you are ill, do not go to school, the office, social gatherings or any other crowded place.
  • Always keep your mouth and nose uncovered while coughing or sneezing.
  • Do not throw used tissues or handkerchiefs around.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are infected or show symptoms.

Swine flu, also known as influenza, is a respiratory infection. Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or blocked nose, headache, body aches and fatigue. Most patients recover with proper care and medical advice. However, young children, elderly people, pregnant women, and those with serious or long-term illnesses are at greater risk of developing complications.
