Hunger Strike Solves Decade old Problems
Resort to a hunger strike when the civic administration turns virtually deaf and ignores your woes.
Resort to a hunger strike when the civic administration turns virtually deaf and ignores your woes.
It was well proved today when a young man sat on a hunger strike outside the Udaipur Municipal Corporation demanding removal of tonnes of debris, a broken sewage lines and filth spread near his residence which has been ignored from the past several years.
The hunger strike came to an end in the evening after a written assurance was given by the Corporation’s Commissioner to fix everything in the next 10-15 days.
Ali Asghar, resident of Jamalpura, Boharwadi sat on hunger strike supported by local residents of the area who were disappointed by the frail administration and unconcerned attitude of the Municipal Corporation.
Tonnes of debris mounted in the area plus no proper care of the public toilet (Sulabh) resulted in misery for the residents of the area, who claimed to have informed the area Corporator and the Municipal Corporation (erstwhile Council) several times, but to no avail.
Today morning, Ali Asghar sat on a hunger strike outside the Municipal Corporation and by evening the Commissioner assured that all the problems will be solved in the locality.
“They (Commissioner) gave a written assurance that the debris will be removed in 2-3 days while the work on the broken sewage will be completed in 15 days”, said Ali Asghar who broke his hunger strike in the evening.
The Question: Do Local residents have to resort to such steps always to get their basic rights back?
