The atmosphere at Pacific University, Udaipur got tense on Saturday afternoon after two groups of students had a clash on an issue relating to the students mess. The compound of the University turned into a battle ground, due to which, a large police force was deployed to control the situation.
Agitated students caused damage across the University premises including the Mess, Library and even vehicles.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, when one student Shailendra had an argument with the Mess Counter In-charge Maan Singh. The argument turned ugly resulting in a fight and Shailendra called his friends for help. Maan Singh said that a group of around 60 students attacked him, wherein he allegedly sustained injures.
Maan Singh further said that along with him other staff members of the Mess, viz. Mahendra Singh Chauhan, Jagdish, Kailash and Mitthu Singh Rathore were injured as well. Later a few local students who were sitting in another Mess in the University premises rushed in and tried to intervene. Soon the scene turned ugly as both groups came face to face. Within a few minutes a huge number of students gathered at the University and started destroying its property.
Additional SP City Rajesh Bhardwaj informed that the as soon as they got information of the clash he rushed there with his force including DYSPs and Station House Officers of Pratap Nagar and Hiran Magri. Later on, additional force was also deployed at the premises. The situation was brought under control and no one sustained any major injuries except few a minor wounds.
One student group that was involved in the scene belongs to another State and are staying at the Hostel of the University. They informed media that few of their hostel mates and friends had sustained injures during the whole scene. They also blamed few staff members of the Mess for being responsible for the whole episode.
However both the parties are blaming each other for the incident but the truth will be revealed once the investigation of the matter gets over; we will declare holidays in the University and later take disciplinary action against those who are responsible for disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the University, and will also lodge a complaint at the Police Station, said Rahul Agarwal, Secretary of Pacific University.
