In a heartbreaking incident that shook the city of lakes, a pregnant mother gave birth to a baby girl in a public park, located close to a hospital, post last midnight. The mother was allegedly refused to be admitted by two hospitals, before she delivered the baby with only her husband as her nurse.

District collector had ordered the enquiry over the matter and the Chief Medical and Health Officer has also taken the case seriously and assured to investigate the unfortunate incident.

According to Babulal Gameti, resident of Eklavya Nagar, took her wife Champa (30) to the government hospital near Chetak Circle with the help of 108-ambulance, last night of 11 Oct at around 11 pm, after she’d complained labor pain.

The hospital authority allegedly refused to admit Champa, since she didn’t have any female guardian with her. Seeing her wife’s terrible condition, Babulal tried to arrange transport, but at last when he could not find any help, the distressed husband-wife started walking to another Hospital at Ambamata.

After walking for nearly three hours, in the darkness of night, they reached the hospital; allegedly, here too Champa was discarded admission for the same reason of not having any female attendant.

Champa’s condition was deteriorating fast and her pain was getting extreme. Babulal understood the emergency situation and took her wife to a nearby public park, where she finally delivered a girl child, at around 3:30 am.

Later in the morning, Babulal somehow managed to take his wife and newborn baby to their home and informed local media about the tragic night they had been through.

Media personnel reached District Collector Vikas Bhale and informed him about the incident, Bhale expressed shock and ordered an enquiry into the matter and further asked for detailed investigation.

“I came to know about this shameful accident through media, I already asked ADM City to do enquiry and give me the report”, stated the Collector.

Dr. R. N. Bairwa, CMHO said that he never heard or came across such an incident in Udaipur ever, though he did not blame anyone directly, but assured to set enquiry and if someone found guilty, would be charged accordingly.
