Group of people staged a protest outside the Udaipur Collectorate on Friday afternoon against the Land Acquisition Bill passed by the Central Government. The protesters not only handed over the memorandum to the district collector stating their demands, but also burnt an effigy of PM Narendra Modi.

The protesters showed their agitation outside the collector’s office and called slogans against the ruling party and PM. The memorandum was handed over under the banner of Udaipur Dehat Zila Congress Seva Dal.

The members completely opposed the land acquisition bill and demanded a survey to be conducted by the government before acquiring the land of the peasants. The survey conducted should be on economical conditions and social status of the land owner.

The memorandum demands proper rehabilitation arrangements for those who will lose their piece of land and return of the land back to the owner if it is not been utilized for a fixed period of time.

The president of the association Dayalal Choudhary said that the land should not be acquired from the peasants who have grown crops on the land. If it cannot be avoided, then consider the land only after consent of at least 80% of the peasants.

Provide handsome compensation to all such farmers who lost their crops due to sudden hailstorm across the state in previous days is also one of the major demands of the group. The government, according to them, should reconsider the amount of compensation announced, said Dayalal.
