In the ongoing Road Traffic Week, today Udaipur police acted strict over the encroachments done on streets by shopkeepers and Thelewalas by seizing their goods and warning them for more stern action, if they repeatedly disturb road traffic.

Some of the most congested old city areas stretched from Surajpol to Gulab Bagh, Rangniwas, Jagdish Chowk and City Palace Road, were cleared with wrongly parked vehicles, street vendors and extra goods kept outside shops, in a massive movement run by police.

In another effort, police targeted the areas of Delhi Gate to Dhan Mandi, Teej Ka Chowk, Marshal Chouraha and Mukherjee Chowk.

According to police, these are some of the most congested areas of the city that receive high traffic of daily commuters and shoppers.

The police action was followed by the orders of S.P. Hari Prasad Sharma. Two teams under AdSP Kaluram Rawat and DySP Ata-ur-Rahman had been made to carry out the procedure. Under heavy police force, the teams were divided into several small groups led by inspectors, head constables and police jawans from Police Line.

The sudden action by police frightened local business owners and atmosphere of panic was created in the affected areas.

Hemant Soni, Sub Inspector Traffic informed, “We have warned all of them not to encroach again on common path or strict action will be taken against them under section 60 of Police Act and if any vehicle is seen parked at No Parking areas, will be dealt under the Motor Vehicle act and penalized”.

The motive of the police department behind carrying this operation in the city is to clear encroachments from roads, so that the people get ample safe space to drive their vehicles in city and the road jams can be avoided; it was only the effort of the Police department, said Police.
