Religious Groups to Protest against Violence in Mulla Talai

More than 20 people were detained by Ambamata Police in connection with the 13th April violence in the city’s Mulla Talai area, after an anti religious remark was posted on social networking site facebook. More than half a dozen people were reportedly injured in the clash between two communities.

More than 20 people were detained by Ambamata Police in connection with the 13th April violence in the city’s Mulla Talai area, after an anti religious remark was posted on social networking site facebook. More than half a dozen people were reportedly injured in the clash between two communities.

Heavy police force is deployed in the area and no information of further violence is reported yet.

According to sources, to express remonstration against the violence, tomorrow on Monday the 15th April, religious groups will hand over a memorandum to District Administration, demanding action against the accused and compensation to the victims.

The situation became tense in the city on Saturday, when a group of people thrashed a restaurant owner at Mulla Talai area claiming that he had ‘LIKED’ an anti-religious comment on facebook.

Soon after the incident, large number of community people gathered outside police station and demanded immediate action against all accused.

Incidences of assault, stone pelting and attack on residences of both communities were reported in the area. Group of men also tried to spread terror in the city by forcefully asking shopkeepers to shutdown the businesses.

Acting swiftly on the issue, Udaipur police under the direction of S.P. Hariprasad Sharma took the situation under control and detained several people for rioting.
