SP in action to tackle ‘Fake SIM Cards’ issue

After finding 2500 fake SIM cards during a police raid recently, Superintendent of Police, Hariprasad Sharma, called in a meeting of Udaipur Telecom Association (UTA) and zonal heads of mobile service providers today and ordered them to provide the data of people who have purchased several SIM cards on their names by 8th November.

Dealers and distributors of different telecom companies also declared a day off on 27th Oct to show their displeasure with the telecom companies’ inappropriate behavior with them.

In the meeting, dealers and distributers alleged that whenever any erroneous situation regarding SIM cards appears, companies directly blame the dealers and the retailers for it, which is actually not right.

Hariprasad Sharma, Superintendent of Police, asked all dealers to build a better coordination between the telecom companies and the retailers.

Providing many new ideas to tackle the problem, SP said that no multiple SIMs should be issued to any individual without a genuine reason; and if issued, other active SIMs in his names should be deactivated immediately. He also said that all the companies should verify the documents before issuing the SIM cards and while issuing it, an alternate number must be taken from the costumer.

He said, “The system of taking thumb impressions of the costumers on the C.A.F (Costumer Agreement Form) at the time of issuing a SIM Card should be started”.

Rajeev Mehta, President of UTA, informed that on 9th of November, they will have another meeting with SP to discuss new norms being introduced by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
