District Collector, Ashutosh Pednekar, also the acting Election Commission Officer of Udaipur, has sent notice to Municipal Commissioner for breaking election code of conduct.

The notice was sent for printing thousands of invitation cards of upcoming Diwali Dussehra Mela with photos of Mayor and several local corporators on it. This accounts for a clear breach of Election Commission guidelines.

Rajni Dangi, Mayor of Udaipur, admitted the glitch but also expressed her innocence saying it was a misunderstanding on UMC’s part.

“We have dumped all 8000 invitation cards and already ordered for the new ones. The mistake cost us around Rs.64000.”

When asked who is going to bear the loss, Dangi said that the corporation has a budget of Rs.1 Lac and the loss will be adjusted within that.

It may be noted that any political party leaders or individuals connected to political party are strictly prohibited from self-promotion or advertisement using positional power when the election code is implemented.
