Situation became tensed at Bhattiyani Chohta Road today, when officials of Udaipur Municipal Council visited the controversial construction over a parking lot. The issue has become hot-topic, since the court’s stay was sanctioned on the further construction.

Nevertheless, locals of the area challenged the court orders and expressed the need of a community hall in the area.

It was a one-on-one fight between Geeta Devi Paliwal, former Area Councilor and rest of the people residing nearby, supported by the present Councilor, Mohandevi Suthar.

Geeta Devi strongly objected the construction of community hall over the parking lot by justifying the preservation of adjacent heritage building “Aasin ki Haveli”. She also argued that, localites residing in the area used to dump garbage at the parking lot which is also close to her house.

Geeta Devi’s legal advisor, Advocate Mohammad Hanif Chipa says, “In the name of Community Hall, they are eventually going to turn this parking area to a Shopping Mall and threaten the existence of the heritage Haveli as well.”

However, the locals denied allegations by Geeta Devi and her legal expert; they indeed stated, how badly they need a community hall and parking lot in the significantly congested area of the old city.

Present councilor, Mohandevi Suthar supported the idea of construction and is ready to extend her support to the residents.

No statement from the administration has been recorded over the issue. Residents of the area are objecting the court’s stay order which came after Geeta Devi’s appeal.
