Over a dozen women, resident of Gangaur Ghat jammed the road in protest against government’s order to ban washing clothes and bathing in lake.
The protesting women quarreled with administration and said that, Lake Patrolling team is allegedly misbehaving with women and seize their clothes to be washed and related items.
Murlidhar Kiradu, Dy.S.P (west) reached the spot and dispersed the crowd after convincing protestors who were later joined by few congress activists.
According to a female protestor, they use lakes for washing clothes and bathing from decades and will not stop this practice. They said that, government is unable to stop illegal constructions around lakes but annoying local residents by implementing such regulations.
District Collector had introduced Lake Patrolling Team few months back to prevent lakes from manmade pollution. Since then, washing clothes and bathing in lakes are strictly prohibited.
Himmat Singh Barhath, Commissioner of Udaipur Municipal Corporation said that, people should understand that this rule is to save lakes and not to create problems for local public. “We are aware of the local practices but people should change these practices.”
Barhath said, “We will ask Lake Patrolling Team to educate people instead of acting strictly.”
District Collector Ashutosh Pednekar said, “What is illegal is illegal. No one is allowed to pollute the lakes. Team of UIT will talk to local people about the issue.”
