Rajasthan’s MBBS Capacity Grows with Two New Govt Colleges

NMC approves 50 seats each for new medical colleges in Rajasthan; MBBS admissions to begin from 2025-26 session

Sept 5, 2025 - The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 50 seats each for two new government medical colleges in Tonk and Jaisalmer in the State. Admissions to these colleges will begin from the upcoming academic session 2025–26.

This seat allotment is a part of the approval for an increase of 2,720 MBBS seats across the country by NMC. Of the newly approved seats, 1,200 are for newly established colleges, 970 for existing colleges and 550 seats have been added in deemed universities. Admissions to the increased seats will take place during the second round of NEET-UG counselling.

Rajasthan government had requested 100 seats each for both the new colleges in Tonk and Jaisalmer. With the addition of these two colleges, the State will now have a total of 44 medical colleges — 32 government and 12 private — and the total number of MBBS seats will exceed 5,750.
