‘Udaipur Files’ Faced Threats, Says Producer During Udaipur Visit
Amit Jani meets grieving family of tailor in Udaipur; claims film faced screen denial, cinema threats, and vandalism
Udaipur, Aug 19, 2025 - Amit Jani, the producer of the film Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder, based on the Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Udaipur, arrived in Udaipur on Monday, August 18. During his visit, he met with family members of Kanhaiya Lal tailor and offered his condolences at their home. Afterwards, he went to the office of the District Superintendent of Police, where he spoke with SP Yogesh Goyal.
Producer Jani said the film faced several obstacles during its release. Owing to the release of several big films in the same period, it couldn’t get enough screens, and in some places, threats were issued. He alleged that threats were made to burn down cinema halls, which led some major cinema groups to not screen the film. In Maharashtra, incidents of vandalism occurred in theatres, although in other regions, the film was screened peacefully.
Jani further said that Udaipur Files is now set to release in several countries around the world starting September 5. He emphasised that no filmmaker wants their creation to be subjected to cuts by the Censor Board. It would have been better if the film had not been censored, but despite that, the message the film aimed to convey has successfully reached the audience.
Readers may recall that the film was released across India on August 11, but was not screened in many cinemas. Allegations of conspiracy were also made in this regard.
