Udaipur, July 29, 2025 - The producers of Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder Told the Delhi High Court on Monday, July 28, that they had applied for and were awaiting re-certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for six changes that have been made to the film.
Noting the submission that the film’s re-certification was pending, Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela scheduled the next hearing for July 30 .
The Delhi High Court was listening to a plea on the stay of the film’s release after the case was referred to it by the Supreme Court.
On July 25, the Supreme Court had directed the Delhi High Court to consider the changes made to the film by the Centre. On July 21, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that six modifications had been made to the film. Following this, the Court had told the petitioners to file any objections to the Centre's decision within two days.
The Solicitor General, representing the Centre, informed the Court that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had accepted the report of an expert committee which recommended six cuts to the film, including making the disclaimer more prominent.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had imposed an interim stay on the release of Udaipur Files. The Bench headed by Chief Justice Upadhyaya had directed the petitioner to submit objections to the Centre by July 14. The Court also directed the Centre to take a decision on the objections within a week. The High Court said that the interim stay on the film’s release would continue until a decision was made by the Centre.
The petition in the High Court was filed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani and Mohd Javed, an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of June 2022 in Udaipur.
