Biggest US Air Buildup Near Iran Since 2003 Raises Strike Fears
According to reports, the US has sent a large number of cutting-edge F-35 and F-22 jet fighters and support aircraft to the region and more are on the way
Feb 19, 2026 - The United States military has moved within striking distance of Iran, with the former assembling the biggest air power in the region since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. This significant buildup has raised fears of an imminent attack on Iran by the US although US President Donald Trump is yet to take a final decision, say sources.
The indirect talks on Iranian enrichment of uranium between Iran and the US in Geneva on Tuesday (February 17) ended without any conclusive direction even though Iran said an agreement had been reached upon a “set of guiding principles”. The US called it “a little bit of progress”.
The White House has not disclosed the US President’s stand on military options and said that while “diplomacy is always his first option”, military action could not be ruled out. A media report out of the US had said the White House was on standby for military action by the weekend but Trump is still unsure whether it would be the right course of action.
According to reports, a large number of cutting-edge F-35 and F-22 jet fighters and support aircraft have already been sent to the region and more are on the way.
