In a conversation with U.T, Dr. Pradeep Pradhan, Assistant Director of the Zoo said, “After the installation of the CCTV cameras inside the cages, we can now keep a close watch on visitors; if anyone among them teases any animals in the Zoo, then we can take action”.

“Secondly, we can keep a watch on the diet of the animals and we do not need to employ extra man power to keep a watch on the animals”.

He added, “After the installation of the cameras we have caught more than 2 cases of animal teasing and have fined them for the offence”.

According to the WILD LIFE ACT 1972, the teasing of animals is an offence under Section 38(J) and if any person is found in the act then he/she will be fined with an amount of Rupees Two Thousand and/or Six months of imprisonment.

Giving information on the new addition of animals to the Zoo, he said “New creatures like White Peacock, Silver Pheasant, etc. that were brought to the Udaipur Zoo from Junagarh under the Animal Exchange Program have also added to the number of footfall as after that the number of tourists has increased by approximately 200 people per day. This has also increased the revenue by Rupees Two Thousand per day”.
