Over the last many weeks, a special task force has been formed under the instructions of the District Police Superintendent, and working under the directions of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, City, Anant Kumar. The team, senior member of which have been effected specifically from the Bhupalpura and Surajpol Police Stations was formed to facilitate investigations and crackdown on the culprits.
This team consisted of constables from the various police stations and outposts of the city and had been instructed to spread out on motorcycles and on foot in selected suspect areas of the city. These team members were uniformed as well as in plain clothes and monitored the selected areas from 8 am till 9 pm every day.
After thorough investigations as well as intensive monitoring, it was noted that on most occasions, the person who effected the Chain Snatching was brown skinned, of medium height, around 25 years of age and used to drive an un-numbered Black colored CBZ motorcycle, wearing a black t-shirt.
Today afternoon, the constables patrolling Ashok Nagar Beet Road that comes under the Bhupalpura Police Station area, Dharmendra Kumar and Kamlesh Kumar, noted a person bearing resemblance to the description and on a black un-numbered motorcycle. The rider was in a suspect condition, and the constables, after informing the control room, followed the motorcycle.
The District Police Superintendent declared an immediate blockade around the city and he took control over the situation and commenced intense monitoring. All the Hawks and Alfa Mobile vehicles were put into action across the city.
During the blockade, and Alpha-2 Mobile countered the motorcyclist and blocked the vehicle from the front. The biker tried to escape, but was captured by the police men and immediately bought to the Bhupalpura Police Station as a precautionary measure.
After intensive interrogation by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, the CIs of Bhupalpura Police Station and Surajpole Police Station, the culprit revealed his identity, address and the chain snatching incidents that he had effected.
Robin accepted to have carried out 5 chain snatching incidents (as per last reports received), viz. the Bhupalpura chain snatching incident on 19th March; the incident on 27th March, where chains from two ladies were snatched from near Gattani Hospital; the Sector 14, Goverdhan Vilas chain snatching incident on 31st March and 5th April and the Sector 11 chain snatching incident on 13th April.
As the culprit has already accepted the above mentioned incidents, as per the last reports received, intensive interrogation is still in process and he will be presented before the court to facilitate a remand notice and the looted chains will be recovered. It is suspected that the culprit also has a hand in the various other incidents of chain snatching that have occurred in the city over the last few months.
The SP has told media personnel that the constables and police personnel who were instrumental in effecting the crackdown and nabbing the culprit will be recommended for awards by the Inspector General of Police. Further, he communicated that the Police force in Udaipur is working towards facilitating a bigger crackdown on a few more inter state gangs who had done a few robberies and fraud here.
