However, a bandh-like situation prevailed in various villages in Arnod tehsil and surrounding areas while curfew wasn’t lifted neither relaxed for the second consecutive day on Thursday here.
Shops remained closed in the sensitive areas and people didn’t get out of their houses due to the tense atmosphere. Amid elaborate security arrangements the bodies of the deceased were cremated at their native places, who were shot dead in the firing which took place on Tuesday night at Kotdi.
Few persons have been detained at the Arnod police station for interrogation while the cops are running an intensive search campaign to seize the illegal arms and ammunition reportedly in custody of many people among the minority sect.
‘The law and order situation is fully under control in the area and no incidents of violence have been reported since Wednesday. However, we are vigilant and keeping strict watch on any unpleasant happening’ said SP of Pratapgarh, Utsav Kumar Chhanwal.
The dead bodies of both the deceased victims of firing from Moheda village, which were claimed by their family members from mortuary at Udaipur had been taken to their native places, were cremated in a tight police security.
Meanwhile, the higher authorities have removed Girdhari lal, the SHO of Arnod police station for his alleged negligence in maintaining peace in the area.
On being questioned for not having a single person arrested so far, the SP said many people are being interrogated but since this is a sensitive issue, we need to be cautious that no innocent people are unnecessarily dragged in.
A team has been made to trace the anti social elements involved in the riots and to catch the culprits responsible for the violence’ said Chhanwal.
However, both the groups have been reported to lodge cases of physical assault against one another which are being scrutinized minutely by the officials. Four companies comprising of about 300 police personnel are yet deployed in the area to prevent any disastrous incidents.
Meanwhile 11 other people who were injured on the fateful night are being treated at the MB hospital in Udaipur.
