The deceased arrived from Champaran, via Gujarat and was under home quarantine since 25 May.  His first COVID test sample was found negative on 26 May.

The death of a 55 year old man, residing in Sukher, Udaipur is being reported to be a COVID death by local media today.  As confirmed to UdaipurTimes by authorities later today evening, the death was a result of cardiac arrest and is not classified as death caused by COVID.

This man had come to Udaipur from Gujarat and was under home quarantine since then, as per the protocol applicable at that time.  Dr. Dinesh Kharade, CMHO, Udaipur confirmed that the death was not due to COVID, as has been claimed by other local media channels.

In his interaction with UdaipurTimes, Dr Dinesh confirmed that the man had come to Udaipur from Champaran, via Gujarat and was tested for COVID on arrival on 26 May.  His sample was found to be negative.  He was then sent for home quarantine.  On 2 June, another sample was taken, the report of which was found to be positive on 4 June.  In the meanwhile, he developed cardiac arrest on Wednesday and was declared dead on reaching hospital, which was within 90 minutes of getting the cardiac arrest. This death, hence, is due to cardiac arrest and cannot be be attributed to COVID, as confirmed by the CMHO.

Dr Dinesh also confirmed that local media is also wrongly reporting this death as the 4 COVID death. The actual deaths attributed to COVID is 2, as confirmed by the health authorities. One an 80 year old male and the other of an 80 year old female. The other death reported earlier as the third COVID death, was actually caused due to cancer, as reported by UdaipurTimes, on confirmation from the CMHO.

CMHO further reported that of the total 576 positive cases, the current tally of active cases in Udaipur is 109. As of 4 June, 426 patients have been discharged from hospital. Of these, there are some cases who have been found negative in multiple sample testing and have opted for home quarantine as per applicable regulations.
