Udaipur, September 26, 2024 - The fear that the man-eater leopard is still roaming the area has come back after a six-year-old girl was killed yesterday, September 25, 2024, by a leopard in Kundau village. This spot is just 5 kms away from Chhali in the Majawad gram panchayat. The incident has given rise to new questions whether one of the two leopards captured on September 23 night is the man-eater that had killed three people in Gogunda district. Or it is still roaming free and is responsible for the girl's death on Wednesday night. Alternatively, it is possible that more than one leopard in this forest is preying on humans.

So, now, the Forest Department has begun searching for a third leopard.

Readers may recall that the two leopards captured from the Gogunda district were taken to the Sajjangarh Biological Park on September 25. The blood, hair and stool samples of both animals have been sent to the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad.

Once the test results from these institutions are received, it will be determined whether either of these leopards had attacked humans. Or if another one is responsible. The DNA from their blood will be compared with human blood and their stool will be examined for human remains. Also, the hair found at the attack sites will be matched with the samples.

Meanwhile, a leopard was spotted in the Bedwas area of the city on September 24 night. Frightened residents demanded that the Forest Department set up a trap. After much dilly-dallying, sources say the department finally set up a trap by 6 pm the following day using a goat as the bait.
