Filmmaker’s Wife Gets Interim Relief from Supreme Court in the ₹30-Crore Film Fraud Case
Udaipur, Feb 13, 2026: The Supreme Court on Friday, February 13, granted interim bail to the wife of a Bollywood director in an alleged ₹30-crore fraud case related to film production. However, the filmmaker himself did not receive any relief at this stage. The next hearing on their regular bail plea is scheduled for February 18.
In the Supreme Court, the filmmaker was represented by senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, while the complainant Dr. Ajay Murdia was represented by Advocate Harsh Surana. Earlier, on January 31, 2026, the Rajasthan High Court had rejected the couple’s bail plea. They then approached the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition, after which the court granted interim bail to the wife. The notice on the petition was issued by the two - judge bench comprising of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
Udaipur-based lawyer Kamlesh Dave, associated with the case, said that after receiving the Supreme Court order copy, an application for bail bonds will be filed in the concerned ACJM-4 court in Udaipur. After completion of the process, the filmmaker’s wife is expected to be released from jail by late evening on Friday, Feb 13.
Background
The Udaipur police had arrested the filmmaker and his wife from their flat in the Gangabhavan complex in Juhu, Mumbai. During the arrest, a security guard tried to stop the police, claiming that the Director and his wife were not at home, but the police already had information and took both into custody.
The arrest ensued as a result of a complaint filed by Dr .Ajay Murdia in Udaipur on November 17, against the filmmaker and eight others. The complainant alleged that the couple and the other accused induced him to invest Rs. 30 Cr in a biopic on the complainants late wife. The investigation in the case is ongoing.
