Hawkers attack Municipality Flying Squad workers In what can be classified as an absolute disregard to the administration and the law keepers, an altercation took place between the road side vendors near the Santoshi Maa Temple at Teej Ka Chowk, Dhan Mandi and members of the flying squad of the Municipality.

When the members of the flying squad suddenly turned up in the Teej Ka Chowk to remove the hawkers operating on the road side, one of the hawkers, Babu Lal Teli, attacked the members of the flying squad.

The story dates back to a couple of years ago, when Tarun Hinger, owner of Lucky Paint Shop, situated at Teej Ka Chowk raised an objection on the presence of three hawkers right opposite his place of business at the Chowk.

As per Taruns petition in the form of a letter to the Home Minister on 30th August 2010, the presence of three hawkers perpetually in front of his place of business resulted in un solicited occupation of the parking area for his customers and the presence of buyers at the hawkers stalls created a nuisance value to his home, which was right above the shop, Lucky Paints.

The name of the hawkers are Girish Kumar, who sells bangles on his hand cart and is a resident of Nalvaya Chowk; Satbir, who sells vegetables and Babu Lal Teli, who sells eatables like Samosas and Kachoris.

Subsequent to the request by Tarun, the ADM City had given orders to have the hawkers removed, against which the hawkers had pleaded to the court on saying that this had been their place of business for 30 years and there have been no reported incidents of nuisance value due to their presence.

Tarun Hinger argued that since the area was getting developed, the presence of buyers at the hawkers stall as well as the by-standers increasing day by day at Babu Lals stall created a nuisance value on a continuous basis and was also a hindrance for his customers, who could not park their vehicles there.

The plea by the hawkers was rejected by the court and orders were given to have them removed from the disputed site on 29th March 2011.  The complainant, Tarun, along with 5-6 shop keepers of the area even met with the ADSP Tej Raj Singh in October 2011.  Action was subsequently taken and the hawkers were removed by the police team from the Dhan Mandi police station.  However, after a few days, as if in an open challenge to the Courts orders and the guardians of law and order, the three hawkers returned to the same spot.

The flying squad of the Municipality sprang into action today and when the members came to the spot to remove the hawkers, one of them, Babu Lal attacked the team.

Tarun and the other shop keepers in the area, along with Paras Singhvi, the Councilor of Ward No. 50, in which the area falls reached the Dhan Mandi police station to refer the matter to the police.  Satyanarayan Acharya, Commissioner, Municipal Council has assured the complainants that their concerns would be addressed and action will be taken against the perpetrators.
