India Boosts Maritime Security with Rs 5,083 Cr Defence Deals
India’s Ministry of Defence signs Rs 5,083 crore contracts with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and JSC Rosoboronexport for ALH Mk-III helicopters and VL-Shtil missiles, respectively
March 4, 2026 - On March 3, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of India signed major defence contracts totalling Rs 5,083 crore to enhance maritime security and Naval defence capabilities. The contracts are for the acquisition of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III (MR) and VL-Shtil missiles.
The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The MoD signed a contract worth Rs 2,901 crore with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III for the Indian Coast Guard. These twin-engine helicopters are specialised for maritime operations and equipped with advanced avionics and sensors.
In addition, the MoD signed a contract valued at Rs 2,182 crore with JSC Rosoboronexport (Russia) to procure Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Shtil missiles and associated systems for the Indian Navy’s frontline warships.
