Indian Army & Railways Join Hands to Launch Jobs for Retd Servicemen, Agniveers
Indian Railways and Indian Army introduce Framework of Cooperation offering job reservations for ex-servicemen and Agniveers; over 14,788 posts notified with 5,000+ fast-track recruitments
Feb 28, 2026 - The Indian Railways and the Indian Army have launched an initiative called “Framework of Cooperation”. Under this pact, reservation benefits will be provided to both ex-servicemen and ex-Agniveers to increase post-retirement employment opportunities for them. The Army shared this information through a social media post.
In its post, Railways mentioned that a large number of soldiers, sailors, and airmen retire at a relatively young age with substantial experience and managerial skills. Their welfare is an important part of Indian Railways’ policies.
This joint initiative by the Army and the Railways is expected to provide significant relief for Agniveers completing their four-year tenure and soldiers retiring from the Army, particularly the first batch of Agniveers who are set to complete their term this year.
Reservation Details
For Ex-Servicemen:
- Level-1 posts: 20%
- Level-2 & above posts: 10%
For Ex-Agniveers:
- Level-1 posts: 10%
- Level-2 & above posts: 5%
During 2024 and 2025, a total of 14,788 vacancies have been notified for ex-servicemen in Indian Railways, including 6,485 posts in Level-1 and 8,303 posts in Level-2 and above. Recruitment to Level-1 (former Group D) is carried out through the Railway Recruitment Centres (RRCs) while Level-2 and above posts are filled through Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) by way of competitive examinations.
In the meanwhile, Indian Railways has decided to appoint ex-servicemen as Pointsmen on a contractual basis until the regular recruitment process is completed. This is a part of immediate measures to fill vacancies and currently, recruitment is underway for more than 5,000 posts. As of now, nine railway divisions have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Army organisations for this recruitment.
