“Advocacy is considered as a part of social work and advocates are expected to work for the society”. Advocates should take their work as a mission to obtain justice,” said Rajasthan High Court’s Justice Govind Mathur while addressing lawyers at a seminar held in Udaipur.
He said, “Court and law should not get hijacked by the influential people and for that, advocates should change their perspective and consideration towards their job.”
Justice Mathur highlighted several issues and problems in his one hour speech at an event held at Law College, MLSU.
Mentioning about the violation of child rights in Barmer, Justice Mathur said, “Hundreds and thousands of underage children are working in carpet industry of Barmer. They are weaving knots with their soft hands, but they did not get justice yet.”
He also discussed about children working in black stone mines in Banswara, sweet shops in Jodhpur and many such cases of child labour in almost every district of Rajasthan.
Mathur added, “Though there are various acts and provisions made by the constitution to prevent serious crimes against children including child trafficking, sexual abuse, child labour, female feticide etc but being a judge myself, I can say that we all have failed miserably in executing our duties and providing justice to all these victims.”
