Madri Farmers Staged Protest Against Chemical Factories
Nearly 500 people, including farmers and residents of the areas situated near Madri Industrial Area gathered outside the office of District Collector to express their concern over the growing health hazard due to the factory waste collecting in (Bedach) Ahar River canal.
The agitated protestors gave the memorandum to the administration and demanded quick action to remove all chemical factories in Madri Industrial Area and the adjacent village of Umarda.
In the memorandum, the committee has mentioned that chemical waste coming from the factories is dumped in Ahad River which is creating serious health problem. In addition to this, these harmful residues from the factories are also harming the vegetation as the water used for the irrigation is becoming polluted due to these wastes.

Water from Bedach River goes into Udaisagar Lake; the farmers alleged that a few factories are also dumping waste through bore well.
The farmers also stated, “We have been continuously protesting for the issue from last three years but no action has been taken so far and the condition is getting worst from bad.”
According to the letter given, some of the villagers went to the office of Pollution Control to know about what progress have been made in the matter, but instead of assisting, the department has slapped the case against the villagers. This incident occurred on 2nd March 2012.
There are more than 20 different chemical factories located in Madri and Gudli area which includes Pharma companies, cold house, chemical factories etc.
