PM Modi Embarks on Tour of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic

August 29, 2026 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today embarked on a four-day visit (from August 29 to September 1) to the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. In his departure statement this morning, the Prime Minister said that during his visit he will hold discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on further deepening cooperation in trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence, energy, and on advancing both countries’ shared visions of Viksit Bharat and Yangi Uzbekistan.

From Tashkent, PM Modi will then travel to Bishkek to participate in the 26th SCO Summit, marking 25 years of the organisation of which India has been an active member since 2017. He will meet Sadyr Zhaparov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, and other SCO leaders and also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games.

“I am confident that this visit will strengthen India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia, deepen our civilisational connect with the region, and advance our shared pursuit of peace, stability and prosperity, values that lie at the heart of India’s engagement with the world,” the Prime Minister said.
