PM Modi Meets Iran President in Kyrgyzstan
Prime Minister Modi reviews the current developments in West Asia; emphasises on the need for continued efforts to ensure peace in the region
August 31, 2026 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday, August 31. The Prime Minister is currently on a four-day visit to Central Asia.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and other Iranian officials from the country were also present at the bilateral meet. This is the first face-to-face talks between the two leaders since the West Asia war broke out earlier this year.
PM Modi reviewed the current developments in West Asia and emphasised on the need for continued efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region. In a message on X, the PM wrote, "Reiterated our commitment to strengthening India’s long standing friendship with Iran across diverse sectors. We want to expand and diversify our trade basket in the times to come. We had a discussion on the prevailing situation in the region. India will continue to support all efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace."
The Prime Minister also had a meeting with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the day.
