PM Modi to Address the Nation at 8:30 pm Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the nation at 8:30 pm today following intense Parliamentary developments around the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023, which failed to pass after voting in Parliament
April 18, 2026 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the nation today April 18 at 8:30 pm. The agenda of his talk has not been disclosed but it is widely expected to be on the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023 which was defeated in Parliament on Friday (April 17).
Voting on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was held Friday evening with 298 members voting in support and 230 against it. The Bill did not get the required majority of 352 votes out of 528 members who voted and so, failed.
The Opposition had been protesting against the Union Government's move to bring in the Women’s Bill because it says the Bill was crucially linked to the Delimitation Bill and increasing the Lok Sabha seats from the current 543 to 850.
The Opposition parties said they were against the manner in which the Bill was introduced and how it was structured. Protests were registered when in a surprising late night sudden move on Thursday (April 16), the Union Ministry of Law and Justice issued a gazette notification declaring April 16 as the date from which the 2023 Women's Reservation Act (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) will come into force.
The last time when Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation was on September 21, 2025, when he announced major GST reforms.
