Udaipur: Saffron flag replaced by Bhim Army flag creates turmoil

A case of removing the religious flag and replacing it with the Bhim army flag in Jaswantgarh of Gogunda area in Udaipur came into the spotlight recently. Heavy police force had to be deployed in that area. Similarly an FIR has been registered against more than 27 persons for inciting religious sentiments. The incident happened on Friday 14 April, 2023, during a rally which was organized to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The very next day, various Hindu organizations protested by closing the Jaswantgarh market and again hoisted the saffron flag at the main square.

According to the sources, the women present in the rally started removing the big saffron flag on the Maharana Pratap Circle and placed Bhim army flag. Police present at the moment tried to stop the crowd but they kept on raising slogans. Later, the police removed the flag. Large number of villagers gathered on the spot and started demonstrations after the incident. The villagers were pacified by the police. The removal of the flag video went viral on social media.

On Monday April 17, 2023, the office bearers of Bhim Army Sena and SC ST Morcha submitted a memorandum against the SP to the District Collector regarding this matter. Bhim Army Sena told in the memorandum that the people against whom cases have been registered should be released soon and the flag of Bhim Army should be hoisted again at the main square of Jaswantgarh, otherwise Bhim Army Sena will hold a fierce demonstration in the city.
