Two of the key researchers and scientists will visit Udaipur on 12 April to carry out a survey for the establishment of the Gravitational Wave observatory which is proposed to be built in the city of lake.
If the project works, it would be the world’s 3rd observatory of its kind.
C.S Unni Krishnan, Senior Scientist of Tata Info of Fundamental Research and Sharad Gawker, former Deputy Director of Geological Survey of India are arriving in Udaipur tomorrow at 12 noon.
Professor S.N.A Jaffery, Director of Vigyaan Bhawan, M.L.S.U informed that the team will visit different sights and check whether the place is according to the standards set by the Indian Government.
Besides this two more observatories of this type are presently in operation, one at Louisiana, U.S and other at Frankfurt.
Prof. Jaffery also informed that the proposed sites for the observatory are at Karanpur near Dabok Air Port and at Gotipa ki Mandol at Charnoud.
He also said that in this project Rs.1000 cr. will be invested that will be provided by the Indian Government in 3 phases, in the first phase Rs. 600 cr. will be provided while Rs 250 cr. Are proposed to be given in the second phase and the remaining amount of Rs 150 cr. will be given at the end by the Government.
Type of land required for the observatory
According to Jaffery, for the observatory a piece of land 4 Km long and 4 km wide is required. The observatory will be at the centre at 90 degree angle so that it can receive the gravitational waves from both the sides and collect the data related to the activities going on in the space.
