Panic gripped Gusia colony on Monday morning when the officials of RSEB cut off electricity connections of over 500 houses situated at the slum area by labeling them as illegal. The annoyed people staged a protest against the decision of the department and blocked the road for 30 minutes which affected the traffic of that area.
Hundreds of people protesting and shouting slogans said that this move is injustice as they had applied for electricity consumption however, their applications were not considered.
A team of Surajpol police station rushed and controlled the situation. The former corporator of the area and social activist Advocate Rajesh Singhvi reached on the spot and verified the situation. While talking to the media, Singhvi informed that during his tenure he had conversed with department officials to motivate the people of the slum area by organizinf camps to acquire electricity connections but no action was taken by them.
Singhvi claimed that the people of the slum areas were treated as football rolling from one department to the other in need of water and electricity connections.
Rajesh Singhvi added that it is the responsibility of the administration to provide basic amenities to the slum people for a prosperous life. Besides, he also demanded the authority to provide connections back to the homes.
