Census Goes Digital: Citizens Can Record Details from Home via Self-Enumeration
Citizens can personally record their family details through the portal and the authorised and trained district officials will then visit each home to physically verify the data
Udaipur, Apr 15, 2026: In order to ensure accuracy, efficiency and transparency, the Government of India has divided the Census 2027 procedure into two parts - online technology enabled and offline verification.
Under the online mode, the government has facilitated self-enumeration through a dedicated web portal - https://www.census.gov.in. Accordingly, citizens can personally record their family details through the portal and then the authorised and trained district officials will visit each home to physically verify the data enumerated on the portal and sign off the count.
Process Workflow
Online Enumeration (May 1-15): In Rajasthan, the Online Enumeration will be enabled from May 1-15 2026. Accordingly the head of the family can complete the process in less than 20 minutes by entering all the relevants details of the family. The portal has been enabled in Hindi, English, Urdu and 13 more regional languages, viz. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. Once the self-enumeration is completed, the user will receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID via SMS and email.
Offline Verification (May 1- June 14): When the officials visit the home, the citizens needs to produce the ID to facilitate immediate verification of their data. This will be done between May 16 - June 14 2026.
Directives from the District Collector
The District Collector of Udaipur, Gaurav Agarwal, who is also the Chief Census Officer, has issued directives to officials and employees across all government departments within the district to ensure the successful execution of the first phase of the Census - specifically House-listing and Housing Census. The Collector has also directed the officials to ensure self-enumeration of their own families first. This initiative will serve as a precedent for the general public and will foster greater participation in this major national undertaking. The officials will conduct the self-enumeration on May 1, said Dipendra Singh Rathore, the ADM (Admin) of Udaipur, who is also the District Census Officer. He also said that special camps will be organized at the block level and at various key locations.
