Udaipur, November 29, 2024. The gates of Udaipur City Palace finally opened to the public last evening, after three days.

At around 6:00 pm yesterday, Dr Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, a member of the former Mewar royal family, arrived at the main gate of Mewar Palace near Badi Pol at Jagdish Chowk. He opened the gates and expressed gratitude to the State Government and the Udaipur administration. He also conveyed his message to all the residents of Udaipur, announcing that the gates had been reopened and tourists would once again be allowed entry into the City Palace.

Readers may recall that a tense standoff had occurred between members of the former royal family of Mewar on November 25. The dispute was over Maharana Vishvajit Singh Mewar being denied entry into the palace to perform royal rituals after he was anointed Maharana following the death of Maharana Mahendra Singh Mewar. The gates of the City Palace had been closed since then after a clash ensued.
