Udaipur Commercial LPG Supply Disrupted; Eateries Facing Shortage
Commercial LPG cylinder supply in Udaipur has been disrupted since March 4; government prioritising domestic LPG consumers amid global supply concerns
Udaipur, March 11, 2026 - The supply of commercial and domestic LPG cylinders has started getting affected in Rajasthan. In several places where cylinders are available, allegations of black marketing have also surfaced. In Udaipur city, around 1,000 to 1,200 commercial LPG cylinders are consumed daily, but currently their supply has been disrupted. The situation is severely affecting hotels, restaurants, hospital canteens and hostels. This issue has persisted in Udaipur since March 4.
Udaipur LPG Federation Secretary Sunil Joshi said that the crisis began on March 4. Owing to the ongoing war-like global situation, the supply of gas through the Strait of Hormuz maritime route has been affected, leading to a shortage of LPG.
He said the government currently has a stock sufficient for about 45 days. However, the government’s priority at the moment is domestic consumers, which is why the supply of commercial LPG cylinders has been limited.
Joshi said that hotel and restaurant operators are constantly contacting gas agencies, but agencies are unable to supply commercial cylinders owing to the shortage.
He also advised domestic consumers not to panic. People should understand that if they receive a cylinder today, the next refill may come after around 25 days. The supply of domestic cylinders to households will continue and there should be no immediate difficulty for residential consumers.
However, owing to the shortage, hotel owners, restaurant operators and canteen managers in the city are facing serious problems. Many establishments currently have stock only sufficient until the evening. If fresh cylinders are not supplied soon, it may become difficult to continue operations.
Alternative arrangements are being considered, but the shortage could also create problems for weddings and large events in the coming days.
