Udaipur Jewelry Market faces loss as strike continues

On the third day of the All India Jewelers strike under the banner of Gold Jewelers Federation of India, all the jewelry shop owners and members of Gold Jewelers Association of Udaipur along the Mahaveer Singatwaria, President and Yaswant Achlia, Founder of the Association, gathered at Ghanta Ghar today morning at 11.30 am and marched towards the Jhini Ret area near Surajpol in the form of a rally.
More than 100 jewelers walked on the streets of Bada Bazaar area and showed their anger and dissatisfaction against the changes in percentage of taxes and import and export duties that would be levied in the future, which will adversely affect their business.

Mahaveer Singhatwadia informed UT that “the strike will continue for two more days and today’s rally was to effectively demonstrate our dissatisfaction on the changes made in the budget by the Finance Minister.”

He also informed that we are protesting against the increase in ex-custom consumer tax that was increased by 1%; Gold Duty increased to 4% from 2% and a 5% increase in the Import Duty which will create a negative impact on our business.

Yashwant Achlia, Founder of the Association said, “in these past 3 days we have faced a huge loss (in Crores) as per day turnover of the Jeweler Market of Udaipur is nearly more than Rs. 10-15 Crore.”
