Udaipur was reported with the highest number of Pregnant mothers exposed to HIV Positive as per data collected in last 8 months.

As per the records of last 8 months collected by Rajasthan State AIDS Society 280 pregnant mothers were found exposed to HIV in the state. In the list of the districts having effected pregnant women, with the number of 31 exposed women out of the total 280 in the state, Udaipur District stood on the top.

The atmosphere of the Medical and Health Department of the city got tensed after getting the knowledge of such a big number of effected women in their district and efforts have been started by the department to deal with the problem soon. The treatment of all such pregnant women has been started by connecting them to Anti Retroviral Therapy centers.

Both the Pregnant women and their babies are under life threat, which is a matter of serious concern for the health department.

According to the Medical officials, the chances of transmission of the disease occurs in 3 conditions namely, at the time of birth, at time of feeding or at the time when the baby is in pelvis. To control the transmission of HIV, a checkup of the pregnant woman is carried out on regular basis by the department.

Dr. Sanjeev Tank, Chief Medical and Health Officer while talking about the problem said that the department has came in action to cope up with the problem and initially, it is focusing on saving the babies of all the HIV exposed women from getting effected by the disease.
