A study conducted by AIIMS on Covid-19 infected people revealed that even vaccinated people can get infected with the Delta variant. AIIMS Delhi conducted this study on 63 people who got infected after vaccination.

It has been stated that out of the 63 infected people, 35 had received both the shots of vaccination and 27 received only one dose. All these people got the infection after vaccination and among the samples which were genome sequenced, Delta variant is predominant.

The Delta variant was found in 23 samples. 10 participants in this study have been vaccinated with Covishield and 53 have been vaccinated with Covaxin. These patients were between the age of 21 and 92 and out of these 41 were males and 22 were females.

It may be noted that there have been no deaths in this group which clears that vaccination lessens the severity of the infection. Vaccination is not a guarantee against infection, but it ensures that infection does not become severe. Vaccination reduces mortality.
