A 22 year old woman was found hanging from the roof of her room this morning at around 9.30 am. The victim was identified as Menakshi w/o Manohar Das Vaishnav (Vairagi), resident of Janro ki Saraye, Debari near Girl’s Secondary School.

According to the police, when Manohar Das had awoken and witnessed the scene, he immediately informed her parents along with the police. “We received information about the tragedy and arrived on the scene along with the DSP West.

After conducting the preliminary verification, the body was taken to the Mortuary where the post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow,” said Satish Meena, SHO Pratap Nagar.

Though the incident is being treated as a case of suicide, the parents of the deceased have filed a complaint accusing her husband, her father-in-law Jamna Das, her mother-in-law Sushila Devi and two of her sisters-in-law Ganga and Sumitra of murder. They have also accused Manohar of torturing his wife.

“My daughter was living at her parental home in Dabok for the past 10 months as her in-laws continuously tortured her for dowry,” said Prem Das, father of the deceased.

On 15th May, Menakshi had left for her in-laws’ home to resolve all the problems.
