The Federation of International Philately hosted an international exhibition competition in Jakarta (Indonesia) between August 4 and August 9, 2022. Udaipur’s Virendra Sharma, who was a part of the 38 member Indian team won a gold medal making the city proud.
Speaking about the exhibition, Virendra said that he had gathered the required first-round qualifying postcard, envelope, and registered letter in 8 frames. 35 Indians competed, and among them, two received gold medals, one of which was won by Virendra Sharma. The senior group had 12 categories in this event. Postcards, envelopes, and registered letters from British India were displayed in this competition. At that time, Thomas De La Rue in London produced the postcards, and stamps were sent to Burma, the Persian Gulf, London, British Somaliland, and Zanzibar. https://udaipurtimes.com/people/Virendra-Sharma-won-gold/cid8347985.htm
The postcard was invented by the British government in 1856. Sharma's collection of archival, dry proof, and essay material used for approval by British officers in the earlier years formed a part of this global exhibition. Prior to this occasion, Sharma has participated in international exhibitions held in Thailand and China, where he received several awards. Commissioner Sahadev Sahoo, a former administrative officer, accepted the medal on Virendra Singh's behalf.
Virendra Sharma is a Director at the Udaipur-based IT consultancy firm Advaiya Solutions and serves on the Philatelic Exhibition's National Accredited Jury. Although he was born and raised in Jodhpur, he has spent the last many years living in Udaipur. In 2011, the Indian Postal Department staged an international philatelic exhibition in New Delhi. In this exhibition Udaipur Philatelic and Numismatic Society’s President, MR Bhandari said that Virendra Sharma has showcased his collection in webinars at such places like places like Indian study circle, United Kingdom, and The Royal Philately Society.
