Udaipur, Jan 28, 2026: Udaipur's Colonel (Dr) Aditya Singh of the Army Medical Corps, has been awarded the esteemed Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) recognition accorded by the Government of India on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day. Presented by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, the recognition testifies his outstanding, devoted and remarkable service to the country and the Armed Forces.

Son of an Army officer, Colonel Aditya Joshi, was born in Agra and changed schools frequently due to transferrable nature of Army assignments. He completed his Higher Secondary and Senior Secondary from The Air Force Bal Bharti School at Lodi Road in New Delhi, and did his MBBS from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune in 2001. He pursued a postgraduate qualification in Anaesthesiology in 2009 and subsequently completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Medanta in 2019. He is highly regarded for his extensive knowledge in critical care medicine, his methodical clinical practice and his ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Colonel Joshi rendered tireless service, working relentlessly day and night to save the lives of critically ill patients. He is highly skilled in the use of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) technology, playing a crucial role in sustaining and reviving patients suffering from severe respiratory and cardiac failure. For his outstanding contributions during and after the pandemic, he has previously received commendation letters and medallions from the Eastern Army Commander and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Currently, Colonel Aditya Joshi is serving at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, the Armed Forces’ most prestigious medical institution, as the Head of the Department of Critical Care.

In his 25+ years of military service, Col Joshi has provided medical services in some of the most challenging locations across India. These include the extremely demanding Siachen Glacier, the sensitive zone of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, West Bengal and the deserts of Rajasthan, and as part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon. His career showcases unwavering commitment and devotion to to his profession.

A second-generation Army officer, Colonel Aditya Joshi is the son of retired Brigadier (Dr) CP Joshi of the Army Medical Corps, inheriting a legacy of service, patriotism and dedication to the uniform.

In conversation with UdaipurTimes, Colonel Joshi humbly credits this national honour first and foremost to his wife, Amrita Joshi, acknowledging her unwavering support in managing the family during his demanding 12-18 hour duty schedules and standing by him through every phase of his service.
