Fateh Sagar-trained kayaker achieves international success in K-4 1000-m kayaking event at Canoe Sprint Asian Championship in Rayong, Thailand
Udaipur, June 14, 2025 – Harshvardhan Singh Shaktawat of Udaipur has made the city and nation proud by winning a bronze medal for India at the four-day Canoe Sprint Asian Championship being held in Rayong, Thailand, from June 12 to 15, 2025. Harshvardhan is the first senior male athlete from Udaipur to win a medal in the Asian Championship in kayaking, bringing laurels to Udaipur and India on the global stage.
A 21-member Indian contingent - with 10 male and 11 female athletes - is participating in various kayaking and canoeing events at the championship.
As per information shared by the Chairperson of the Indian Dragon Boat, Dilip Singh Chauhan, and Chairman of the Rajasthan Canoe Sprint, Piyush Kachhwaha, Harshvardhan represented the Indian team in the K-4 1000-metre kayaking event. They said that the medal reflects the growing capabilities of Indian athletes in water sports and highlighted Harshvardhan’s role as the first senior male athlete from Udaipur to win a medal at an Asian-level kayaking championship.
Prior to the championship, an intensive national coaching camp was organised by the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association from May 20 to June 8 at the Kayaking and Canoeing Training Centre in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand.
Harshvardhan, who has trained under the supervision of national coach Nischay Singh Chauhan at the Fateh Sagar Lake Kayaking Centre in Udaipur, has expressed his intention to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games, aiming for further international success. He talked of the challenges faced during training sessions in extreme weather conditions but reaffirmed his commitment to achieving higher goals.
Harshvardhan has received congratulatory messages from officials and members of various related organisations including Rajasthan Kayaking Association, Rajasthan Dragon Boat, Slalom, Canoe Polo and Rajasthan Kayaking and Canoeing Federation.
