Lesson on Leadership from a Local Fruit Vendor

Standing as a live example to the saying “Leadership starts with you”, a local fruit vendor has become an inspiration to a large set of people for his endeavor in protecting the environment. Kunj Bihari Rawat has planted more than 200 trees at three particular locations of the city and is taking care of them every day.

Kunj Bihari, a resident of old city area of Jhadiyon ki Ol, makes his living by selling fruits at Chetak Circle. He got inspired to start plantation after his father’s death.

“Four years back, I went to Haridwar to immerse my father’s ashes in the holy river. There I met a spiritual guru who told me to plant two types of trees, one that gives shade and others which give fruits. This would help in attainment of peace for my departed father’s soul” said Kunj Bihari.

“After coming to Udaipur I started planting trees at Mohta Park, premises of Luv Kush Stadium and Information Center”, he said.

Soon, the three locations that he chose started transforming and with the support from respective administration, the plants started multiplying from tens to hundreds.

Pawan Sharma, Assistant PRO Information Center, praised Kunj Bihari’s initiative and said that his passion is really appreciable. By planting trees in our office premises he has not only made it greener and beautiful but it will also provide shade in future.

Sports officer of Luv Kush Stadium, Lalit Singh Jhala also appreciated the transformation done by Kunj Bihari. Jhala said that the Kunj Bihari is a self-motivated person. He has planted a large number of plants in our stadium in last four years and more importantly, he is also taking care of it. Seeing his dedication, the stadium has provided him with facilities of water supply and other essentials.

UT salutes this man who is making his actions speak more than words. He is not associated with the much media-hyped one-night stand kind of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but he is an illustration of leadership being a personal power and not a positional affair.

Taking up one small cause but sticking to it for a long time is more important than big talks and small actions.
