To celebrate the birthday of King of Pop Michael Jackson different people organizes programs to give tribute to him but local artist Shariq Khan followed another way to show his gratitude to his idol Jackson.

Shariq by dedicating almost one year prepared a series of paintings based upon Jackson’s life in Udaipur and named it as “MJ Lives On”.

Shariq being a big fan of MJ believed that if MJ ever came to India again he would get lost in the colors, customs, music and dance forms of our country. However, he didn’t stop believing that and gave life to his imaginations by painting it on papers.

Shariq in his unique Michael Jackson series displayed him in Mewari attire, enjoying the elephant rides, cycling with the tribal woman, wearing colorful turban on his head, driving auto rickshaw.

Shariq always admired Jackson’s dance and especially the break dance performed by him; following that in his imaginative series he made Jackson as a robot. By dedicating a period of almost one year Khan made 25 art pieces in which Jackson was displayed in different modes.

While talking to UT Shariq said that one night he dreamed about Michael Jackson’s visit to the City of Lakes  in which he was meeting people by moving in the narrow lanes of Udaipur on bicycle, taking experience of selling (Kulfi) ice creams, taking rides of Auto rickshaw, playing sitar, playing tabla with Ustad Zakir Husain (famous Tabla Player of the Country) and riding elephants which is not really seen in any other country.

Shariq further added that Jackson was a personality that has took dance to another level. He was the man who inspired all the people of the world. He also said that and he is one of his biggest admirers and through his art work he has welcomed Jackson in his culture.

To give a social message of avoid cutting of trees Shariq recycled the papers of the old account book that were used in the ancient times. He said that the texture of the paper also added value to his paintings, Shariq added.

Shariq Khan is local artist who runs an Art Gallery in the old city area near Jagdish Temple. Shariq is a creative man and has previously made a unique musical instrument by merging a guitar with another traditional musical instrument Sarod and named it as a “Meditation Guitar.”
