Udaipur is witnessing a hard time since the crime indicator is rising high every day. Dozens of house breaking cases, chain snatchings, day-light robberies and kidnappings are scaring the harmony of Lake City.

“Although Police is making every possible effort to put full stop on all misdeeds, an equal support from public always adds value to it, lack of public alertness and slow response to the situation gives additional challenges to police”, says Tej Raj Singh, the Additional Superintendent of Police (City) in a brief conversation with UdaipurTimes.com.

“In today’s situation, Police is playing the defensive role as we are answerable to every citizen and society; both the public representatives and citizens are very cooperative with police, but we really need to uplift this bonding for the betterment of everyone.”

Common citizens of Udaipur need to continue their support to police and with the joint efforts, the disorder will be controlled quickly and effectively.

How to help police? This is generally asked by the people, to which the Additional Superintendent said, “Besides calling police hotline no.100, there are various other measures needed to prevent any crime or to catch the culprits. The police officer shared a few important points to beat the crime.

  • Installation of CCTV cameras outside malls, showrooms, hospitals and at different locations of the residential colonies to keep eye on everything going on in the vicinity, this will help in case of any mishap occurred in the area.
  • The information about any incident witnessed by the person should be accurate and detailed. This will give police several clues to nab the culprit. Like physical appearance of suspect, vehicle number, color, place of incident, time etc.
  • The information should be provided in time, which means, without wasting a single moment. In number of cases, we get the information either too late or we get partial information. Be it a victim of loot or robbery, the first thing to do is inform police.
  • Those who are residing in colonies should keep an eye on trespassers or any suspected person in or around the location. If anything appears doubt, the residents should inform police. This could help us in preventing the crime.
  • Servant Police Verification should be done before keeping any in house for domestic help. Try checking the person’s background before keeping him/her as a paying guest.
  • Also inform the police about any wrong, suspicious activities going on in your vicinity or, if you have doubt on any person that he/she might be indulged in anything against the law.

There are examples of a few cases which were solved soon after the crime occurred in the city like kidnapping of an accountant; the culprits were traced within an hour of committing the crime.

In another incident, two chain snatchers were caught immediately after doing the offence. In both incidences, the citizens played vital role in cracking the offenders.
