CP Radhakrishnan Sworn In As 15th Vice President of India

New Delhi, Sept 12, 2025: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu administered the Oath of Office of Vice President of India to Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan at a Swearing-in-Ceremony held at Ganatantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan today, September 12, 2025. Radhakrishnan's predecessor, Jagdeep Dhankar was also present at the oath taking ceremony, marking his first public appearance since his abrupt resignation on July 21 earlier this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present on the occasion, and extended his greetings to the new Vice President, prompting him to dedicate his tenure to the service of the people of India, through his post on Twitter (X).

Radhakrishnan has already proven his administrative capabilities with his political and administrative experience as a core member of the RSS and BJP. He has been the Governor of Jharkhand, Maharashtra and also taken additional charge as Governor of Telangana. He had also served as the Lt Governor of Puducherry. Having been at the helm of the BJP in the south, he has often been called the Modi of Tamil Nadu. Earlier, having been elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore, he has also been a part of the parliamentary delegation to the United Nations in 2004 and 2014.

Radhakrishnan took spot as the favorite candidate for the post of VP after the NDA nominated his name for the position last month, followed by a vote victory against the opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy, a former Judge with the Supreme Court. He was elected with a winning margin of 152 votes after securing 452 votes of the electoral college. Radhakrishnan termed his election as a victory of the nationalistic ideology and promised a Viksit Bharat (Developed Nation) by 2047.

Among those present at the oath taking ceremony, were former Vice Presidents Hamid Ansari and Vankaiah Naidu in addition to BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
