After receiving grand welcome upon her arrival to her hometown Udaipur yesterday, Dr. Girija Vyas, Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, addressed a press meeting today at her residence. She has shown an optimistic spirit regarding the development of Udaipur.

Dr. Vyas discussed various issues with the local media including housing and infrastructure of the city.

“I want Udaipur to become a Slum-Free city” she said. “There are 34 slum colonies in Udaipur, and our objective is to remove the slums and provide better housing with adequate facilities to all slum dwellers”, said Dr. Vyas.

“The government has already sanctioned Rs.72 Crore for this project. All housing colonies will be developed under the Chief Minister Avaas Yojna”, she said.

Talking further on the increasing slum colonies in the city, Dr.Vyas said that migration of people from small places for job is the biggest cause of slums.

While talking about other priorities, Girija Vyas showed a soft corner towards the under privileged section of the society. She said that the loan scheme under the Rajiv Gandhi Loan Scheme for people like petty roadside hawkers, will be implemented.

Girija Vyas also talked about the development of Urban Self Employment and Women Self Employment and emphasis on the Housing Scheme within which, on each house 3 lac rupees will be spend and 1.5 lac rupees will be spend on its infrastructure. In this housing scheme women were given importance as registration will be done on their names.

While answering questions put by media personnel, Dr. Girija Vyas also talked about the Udaipur-Jaipur direct flight, extending rail network of Udaipur by connecting it to the Marwar Junction, the proposed passport office in Udaipur, etc.

After the meeting, Dr. Girija Vyas proceeded to Chittorgarh.
